This competition is open to all adults (over 18 years old) in the Gauteng City-Region, except for employees, board and committee members, agents, contractors and consultants of GCRO and their immediate families and life partners, for the duration of the competition.

  1. Entry into this competition is free.

  2. Each entrant is encouraged to participate in as many of the five categories as they would like. A maximum of five photographs per theme per entrant is allowed. Entrants may submit between one and 25 photographs in total. Only individuals may enter the competition.

  3. Photographs must be taken within the Gauteng City-Region, see map on the competition webpage on the GCRO website.

  4. GCRO does not permit copyright infringing activities or infringement of any other intellectual property rights and reserves the right to remove and disqualify any submission deemed to be in violation of another party's copyright or other intellectual property rights.

  5. All photographs submitted must be the entrant’s own original work.

  6. Photographs must not have been used for commercial purposes, published previously, or have been entered or won prizes in any other photography competition.

  7. The contestant assumes sole responsibility for the photograph and the material contained in it. If you submit images that include people, and these images were taken in a private place (ie: the individual’s dwelling or a place where they can expect reasonable privacy like a school), you are responsible for obtaining the necessary releases/permission from the individual/s depicted or in the case of children under 18, from their legal guardian/ parent. Please use this downloadable release form and submit with your entry.

  8. A fully completed online entry form must accompany each photograph submitted.

  9. Each photo must be submitted electronically via the online entry mechanism, in JPEG or PNG format. The total size of images should not be bigger than 25mb.

  10. Higher resolution copies of the submitted photographs, with minimum 4000 pixels on the longest side, should be made available to GCRO upon request. Images smaller than 4000 pixels will qualify for the online publication database.

  11. Images will be judged on originality, composition, response to selected theme and overall impact. The judges will be photographers, and completely independent of GCRO. The decision of the judges will be final and there will be no correspondence regarding the final outcome.

  12. The competition closes on Sunday 31 March 2019. Entries must reach us by 23h59.

  13. Contestants retain ownership of and all copyright and other intellectual property rights for their photos. However, contestants grant GCRO proper attribution through whatever means they deem appropriate, a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sub-licensable and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, and/or display the photo submission, in any media formats and through any media channels in perpetuity, in connection with the activities and operations of the competition.
